  Eurodefense Netherlands and the Defence and Security department of the Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers (KIVI DV) organise an  international seminar titled " European Policies for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Defence ". The seminar will take place in hybrid form on May 24th at KIVI in The Hague.  Early this year, the European Union recently adopted the groundbreaking European Union AI Act, marking a significant milestone in the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. However, this law does not cover defence-related applications of AI. However, the development of AI in the defence sector is no less rapid than in other sectors of society. Therefore,  during our seminar, we will explore the opportunities and challenges of AI for our sector and the potential implications for European policies. De Masterclass Defensie 2024-2025 start op 19 september a.s. en bestaat weer uit 6 collegedagen en 9 werkbezoeken verspreid over 10 maanden door de hele sector.  De masterclass is gericht op jonge WO/HBO ingenieurs en andere WO/HBO opgeleide professionals, die een eerste baan in de Defensiesector hebben.   Eurodefense Nederland en de werkgroep Politiek en Defensietechniek van het Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs zijn verheugd met deze op 19 februari 2024 door de Kamerleden Tuinman en Boswijk aan de Tweede Kamer aangeboden initiatiefnota . Dit initiatief om de munitieproductie te versnellen en mogelijk ook in Nederland munitieproductie weer serieus ter hand te nemen is u iterst belangrijk om de leveringen aan Oekraïne mogelijk te maken en de eigen oorlogsvoorraden op peil te brengen.  Door de geopolitieke ontwikkelingen is zo'n initiatief wellicht ook op diverse andere terreinen van militaire productie noodzakelijk.  De initiatiefnota pleit deels voor versnelde munitieproductie in elders in Europa. Wij vragen ons af of de invloed vanuit Defensie en de Tweede Kamer significant is, waar het gaat om productie buiten Nederland. The outburst of Donald Trump, who in South Carolina on 10 February accused NATO member countries of being "bad payers", has raised concerns in Europe. In Germany, the debate questioned the "life insurance" that NATO represents for Europe, in the words of Analena Baerbock, the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the summit of the Weimar triangle on 12 February, in La Celle-Saint-Cloud (Yvelines). His French counterpart, Stéphane Séjourné, replied: "We need a second life insurance, not as a substitute, not against NATO, but in addition." Europe must give itself this second life insurance, in NATO. It can. While in 2024, Russia will increase its military spending to the equivalent of €106 billion, the European countries of the Alliance, according to the NATO Secretary General, will devote more than €350 billion to it. Deze huidige kabinetsformatie speelt zich helaas af in een nieuwe realiteit, waarin oorlog is teruggekeerd naar het Europese continent. De kans op verdere escalatie van deze oorlog is niet ondenkbaar. Ook in het Midden-Oosten is oorlog teruggekeerd en bedreigt nu een van de belangrijkste handelsroutes van ons land.  Eurodefense Nederland beveelt de Tweede Kamerleden aan om dit gevaar het hoofd te bieden door een versterking van de Europese pilaar binnen de NAVO. Dit vraagt ook belangrijke nieuwe inspanningen voor ons land, nieuwe afspraken voor en met de defensie-industrie en betere financieringsmogelijkheden. Ter ondersteuning van het formatieproces doet Eurodefense Nederland aanbevelingen over internationale veiligheid, Defensie en samenwerking in Europa.

Officieel het " Verdrag betreffende de Europese Unie ". De voorgestelde amendementen betreffen ook een flinke wijziging van het Buitenlands- en Defensiebeleid.  Deze sluiten naadloos aan bij de concepten die Eurodefense in november 2020 aan de Europese Commissie heeft geadviseerd . Het Europese parlement stelt o.a. voor om over Buitenlands en Defensiebeleid te gaan stemmen met een gekwalificeerde meerderheid in plaats van unanimiteit.  Verder om een Europese Defensie Unie op te richten met eigen eenheden onder commando van de Unie en gecontroleerd door het Europese Parlement . Ook wil het Europese Parlement gezamenlijke aankoop van wapensystemen   financieren via de Unie en het Europese Defensie Agentschap (EDA) daarbij een hoofdrol te geven. Het bestuur van Eurodefense Nederland participeerde op 12 en 13 november 2023 in de halfjaarlijkse Eurodefense Presidents-Council. Dit keer in het   Royal United Services Institute  (RUSI) in London. De eerste dag was vooral een "huishoudelijke" vergadering, waar onder meer werd besloten een werkgroep over Export Control  op te richten en de werkgroep "Hybrid warfare" te hernoemen in "Unconventional warfare". Er worden nog deskundigen gezocht om vanuit meerdere partnerlanden deel te nemen aan deze werkgroepen. De tweede dag werd voor o.a.
